Another managerial target for Tottenham Hotspur could be slipping away from them as news emerged from Italy last night.

Football Italia claims that there are growing rumours that Massimiliano Allegri, a managerial target for Tottenham, will return to Juventus.

With 11 trophies in five seasons with the Serie A giants, it’s understandable why the 53-year-old would be attracting interest from abroad.

90 Min did previously claim that Allegri has admirers at Tottenham, as Daniel Levy continues to search for Jose Mourinho’s successor with weeks of the season remaining.

If Spurs can continue to pick up wins under the guidance of the youngest Premier League manager in history in Ryan Mason, 29, then it will paper over the cracks at the club.

But if points start to drop then Spurs will fall outside of the top-seven and there’s only one man that will have to take the hits for that – Levy himself.

Going down the proven route hasn’t worked for Spurs, so that might be a little off-putting, for now.

But Allegri doesn’t have the characteristics of a Jose, so the temptation might still be there, especially given that he is a trophy-laden and proven coach.

Either way, Levy has well and truly shot Tottenham in the foot with the timing of Mourinho’s sacking because it just doesn’t make sense.
