According to FC Inter News, Tottenham target Milan Skriniar could leave Inter Milan on a free transfer in 2023 with contract talks stuttering.
What’s the story?
Well, Fabio Paratici – Director of Football at Tottenham – was desperate to sign the Slovakia international over the summer, although he was quoted a price of £70m.
Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in Skriniar.
Now, however, Inter Milan could lose their £70m asset for nothing.
FC Inter News outline how the 27-year-old’s contract expires in July 2023, and that talks over a renewal at the San Siro are not going smoothly.
Inter Milan are said to have offered Skriniar a yearly salary of €5.5m (£4.8m) including bonuses, although after PSG offered him €7.5m (£6.6m) plus bonuses during the summer window, the defender has rejected the offer.
PSG remain interested, and are likely to resubmit their offer in January.
As things stand, it seems as if Inter Milan probably should’ve cashed in on their No.37 over the summer.
Tottenham must prepare themselves to sign Milan Skriniar
Spurs have eyed the Slovakian for a number of years now, with their interest dating back as far as March 2019.
Those on the recruitment team at Tottenham clearly admire Skriniar, and with an exit in 2023 now looking very likely, the north Londoners must position themselves to fend off Chelsea and PSG.
That will not be easy given the financial power of those two clubs, but hopefully, the long-standing interest from Spurs in Skriniar will make him feel appreciated, and could sway things in Antonio Conte’s favour.
Above all, Tottenham will need to be in good form ahead of potential negotiations in January – if losses are coming thick and fast, and Champions League football in 2023/24 seems unlikely, it could ruin any hopes of a deal.
