Football London claim Tottenham will either look to ‘offload’ Jack Clarke this summer, or hand him a small contract extension with the hope that another loan will generate some interest in his services in a future window.
Clarke, 21, has gone on loan for a fourth time since joining Tottenham for £9million in the summer of 2018. A return to Leeds, then brief spells at QPR and Stoke followed – all ending in failure. He is now at Sunderland.
He is gaining some decent first-team exposure, playing 16 times and having a hand in three goals – two assists and a wonderful effort in a 3-2 loss to Oxford United [below]. But his long-term future at Spurs is in big doubt.
Indeed, Clarke is about to enter the final 12 months of his contract and Spurs have a decision to make. Football London claims there are two avenues in which Fabio Paratici could address in the coming months.
Either sell him if the interest is there, with the North Londoners likely to take a hit on the England Under-21 winger. Or, hand him a small extension, and send him on loan in a final bid to drum up sum interest in his services.
Clarke future: Tottenham should cut their losses and sell winger
When Leeds sold Clarke for £9million, many fans believed they had got the better end of the deal. Before moving to Spurs, he had played 25 times for Leeds – scoring two goals and laying on two assists. He has struggled since.
A few glimpses in the Tottenham Under-23 side saw him earn four first-team outings for Spurs but it is a move that simply has not worked out for the youngster. Tottenham need to cash in, and lick their wounds.
