Tottenham Hotspur could use Cameron Carter-Vickers as a makeweight in a deal that would see the £18 million-rated Wales international Joe Rodon join the Premier League giants from Swansea City, according to the Sun (6 October, page 54).
While there is absolutely nothing wrong with Spurs’ frontline at present, with Harry Kane, Heung Min-Son and co firing home 13 goals since Thursday, a lack of clean sheets will have Jose Mourinho tearing out his snow-speckled locks.
Tottenham have not signed a single new centre-back all summer. The departed Jan Vertonghen is yet to be adequately replaced.
Fortunately, top-flight clubs have until next Friday to do business with their Football League counterparts. And that has left the door ajar for Rodon to join Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon and Carlos Vinicius in the English capital.
As it stands, however, Tottenham and Swansea are a million miles apart in their negotiations.
The 2019 Champions League finalists have made a typically Levy-esque lowball bid, offering £7 million for Rodon despite Swansea making it clear that they value the homegrown Welshman at £18 million.

It remains to be seen whether throwing Carter-Vickers into the mix will bridge the gap.
The 22-year-old American international is available for transfer and, crucially, has plenty of credit in the bank at Swansea after an impressive loan spell in South Wales during the 2018/19 season.
