According to Gianluca Di Marzio, AC Milan are now pushing ahead with their attempts to sign Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan.
It’s claimed that moves have been made to try and sign Maignan in a deal worth just €12million (£10.5million) – a price tag which seems absurdly cheap.
Tuttomercatoweb reported earlier in April that Lille want up to €18million (£15.5million) for Maignan, so it’s hard to see them selling at just £10.5million.
That report also noted that he had become Tottenham’s top goalkeeping target for this summer, viewing him as the eventual heir to Hugo Lloris.
The 25-year-old is one of the top emerging goalkeepers In Europe, and after racking up more than 170 appearances for Lille, it could be time to move on.
Maignan would be a fine signing for Spurs, but Milan are now moving to make him a replacement for Gianluigi Donnarumma having failed to convince him to stay.
Tottenham appeared to have a secret weapon in the race for Maignan, as his former Lille goalkeeping coach Nuno Santos was part of Jose Mourinho’s team at Spurs.
Santos was sacked alongside Mourinho last week though, meaning Spurs no longer have a coach who was close to Maignan, giving Milan hope of swooping in to get a deal done.
If Spurs miss out at just £10.5million, fans would surely be frustrated – and ditching Santos could now cost Tottenham their chance to sign the French international this summer.
