Tottenham Hotspur were busy over the summer window, and the capture of Metz teenager Pape Matar Sarr has provided more intrigue than most.
The likes of Emerson Royal and Cristian Romero are expected to make a major impact this season, but Sarr is one for the future.
Tottenham struck a £14.5million deal to sign Sarr now, but have sent him back to Metz until next summer in order to continue his development.
The 18-year-old will become a Tottenham player for next season, and it’s fair to say that excitement is already building about his potential.
The Daily Mail now offer more information on Sarr, and offer up a striking comparison – to Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos.
We know what you’re thinking; how is a central midfield player being compared to one of the greatest left backs of all time?
In this case, it’s stated that Sarr has the nickname ‘Carlos’ because there is a belief that he can replicate the stunning free kicks Carlos used to conjure up for Brazil and Real Madrid.

Sarr has shown a willingness to shoot from range at Metz, possessing great power in his shots, whilst he also buried great free kicks in a Senegal shirt.
Son Heung-min’s corner kicks can cause mayhem, but Tottenham haven’t had a consistent free kick threat since selling Christian Eriksen in 2020.
There is now a real hope that Sarr can not only provide quality in Tottenham’s midfield, but become something of a set-piece wizard too.
