The Tottenham Hotspur ace has just 16 months remaining on his current deal.
According to a report from the Sun, Tottenham could be prepared to sell Christian Eriksen for just £40 million this summer, as Real Madrid continue to monitor the Dane’s situation in north London.
The 27-year-old joined Spurs from Ajax in the summer of 2013, for a fee believed to be worth in the region of £11.5 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to rack up an impressive 63 goals and 81 assists in 264 appearances in all competitions for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Eriksen’s contract with Tottenham expires in the summer of 2020, however, and it seems as though the north London outfit might be tempted to cash in on the play-maker in the summer, rather than risk losing him for nothing in 18 months time.
The Sun claims that Madrid are keen on signing the Denmark international, and Spurs could be tempted to sell one of their key players, if they receive an offer in the region of £40 million in the summer.
Tottenham fans will surely not want to see Eriksen leave, but it might make sense, from a business perspective at least, to cash in on the former Ajax man before the start of the next season while they still can.
