According to AS, Tottenham have contacted Schalke 04 to ask what they need to do in order to sign Matthew Hoppe, who’s also wanted by Liverpool.
The Spanish news outlet claim that Ajax and Barcelona are also eyeing the 20-year-old, who has attracted José Mourinho and Jürgen Klopp.
It was 90min who claimed back in February that Liverpool were keen.
Hoppe has scored five Bundesliga goals in 13 starts this term, in what has been his breakthrough season in Germany’s top-flight.
AS add that the American striker has spoken to Schalke 04 about a potential exit this summer, and he will have opportunities to leave when this season ends.
Having come through Barcelona’s USA-based academy, Hoppe sounds like a real talent who is starting to find his feet in Europe.

However, given his age, you might not know much about him.
Thankfully, the Bundesliga’s official website made a helpful comparison.
They state that Hoppe plays a bit like Robert Lewandowski.

His upper body strength, movement in front of goal and ability to use both feet are mentioned as comparable traits to the Polish frontman.
Elsewhere, ESPN mentioned that he’s cited Harry Kane as his earliest inspiration.
In that case, surely he’d have a tremendously tough time turning down Spurs if they offer him the chance to play with his idol.
