According to The Sun, Graham Potter is now the leading candidate to replace José Mourinho at Tottenham.
What’s the story?
Well, the BBC claimed yesterday that Nuno Espírito Santo was the frontrunner for Tottenham’s managerial vacancy.
However, a report from The Sun states that the Brighton boss has risen to the top of Daniel Levy’s list of targets.
Levy is believed to have contacted the 46-year-old.
Interestingly, The Sun believe Potter is interested in taking the job if he receives an offer, and the Seagulls wouldn’t stand in his way.
However, Brighton would demand compensation, as the ex-Swansea boss is contracted until 2025.
Potter led Brighton to 16th in the Premier League in 2020/21, winning nine of the club’s 38 games.
While that doesn’t sound amazing, he’s won plenty of admirers for the way in which he has his Brighton team playing attractive football.
Mauricio Pochettino 2.0

One thing to note from The Sun‘s report is what Levy thinks of Potter.
It is said that Levy sees parallels with Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton in the Brighton boss, and we can understand why.
Both men were managing south coast outfits, and had enabled their teams to play free-flowing, attacking football.
There are definitely comparisons to be made.
In our view, Potter should be Tottenham’s Mourinho replacement.

He has shown in his work with Tariq Lamptey and Ben White that he knows how to develop youngsters, while his football also pleases the eye.
The only concern, in our view, would be that he knows he wasn’t anywhere near being the club’s No.1 choice.
However, if he truly is interested in the move, then it’s a no-brainer for Spurs.
