Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with the Everton midfielder for much of the summer.
According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur are considering the prospect of delaying a move for Everton player Ross Barkley, with the 23-year-old’s injury problems a cause for concern for the Spurs hierarchy.
Tottenham have been linked with the England international for the whole summer but no bid has materialised thus far, with Mauricio Pochettino’s side knowing the player will be a free agent in just 12 months.
As a result, Tottenham could play the long game and maintain their interest in the Everton man while keeping the cheque book in their pocket until January, by which time Barkley will have hoped to have put his latest injury woes behind him.
The problem with that option is that another club could swoop in what remains of the transfer window, signing a player who has the innate talent to excel long term at Tottenham.
With a hamstring injury keeping Barkley out for some time to come, Tottenham are allegedly adopting a different strategy and time will tell if it pays off.
They could get him for even less during the winter window, or go the whole hog and sign him for free the following summer, at which point he could be one of the most wanted players in the Premier League.
