Report: Tottenham confident of signing £850,000 rated Ben Wilmot

Tottenham Hotspur are confident of beating Liverpool and Southampton in the race for Ben Wilmot.

According to reports from the Mirror (live blog feed; 14/01/2018 – 20:39), Tottenham Hotspur are confident of making Stevenage starlet Ben Wilmot their first signing of the January transfer window.

The reports claim that the 18-year-old defender is heading to the top tier of English football in a £850,000 deal this month.

Premier League rivals Liverpool and Southampton are also reportedly keen on signing the young defender, but it seems that he is all set to move to the north London club.

Wilmot is a highly rated young talent, and made his league debut for the Boro on Saturday. He played the full 90 minutes against Morecambe after 10 games of being an unused substitute in the league this season.

The Mirror adds that Stevenage could also be raided for the exciting striker Mark McKee, within this month.

It remains to be seen whether Spurs will allow the youngster to remain at the Lamex Stadium for a while, as he would struggle to get into the first team picture straightaway.
