Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon in action
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are confident that they will win the race to sign Fulham teenager Ryan Sessegnon, despite the Championship club still hoping that he will stay.
Spurs beat Fulham 3-0 in the FA Cup on Sunday thanks to a Harry Kane hat-trick, and whilst the hosts struggled to get into the game, one of their players did impress at Craven Cottage.
With 56 minutes on the clock, Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic decided to introduce 16-year-old wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon, stationing him on the left of midfield.
His pace gave Fulham more of an attacking threat in the final half an hour as he caused Kieran Trippier some trouble – and he could end up calling Trippier his tema-mate if Spurs get their way.
The Daily Mail report that Tottenham are confident that they will beat Premier League rivals to Sessegnon’s signature, despite Fulham hoping that he will choose to stay at Craven Cottage in order to play first-team football.
Sessegnon certainly fits the bill for Tottenham; he’s a talented, young English player with huge potential, and Mauricio Pochettino has already demonstrated his ability to work with such players having helped develop the likes of Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Harry Winks and Harry Kane.

Sessegnon can play anywhere down the left but could be ideal for the left wing back role in Pochettino’s 3-4-3 system, which has been abandoned in recent weeks with Danny Rose out injured, as Ben Davies doesn’t possess the same pace or attacking threat. Sessegnon certainly does, whilst the move would enable him to stay in London – possibly even at Fulham if Spurs loan him back to the Cottagers, as they did with Dele Alli and MK Dons.
The teenager is still on a youth contract at Fulham but can sign his first professional deal when he turns 17 in May, and Tottenham fans took to Twitter after his performance against Spurs on Sunday to hail the youngster.
Many supporters were impressed by Sessegnon’s display, suggesting that he should join Spurs in the near future, highlighting that he would be a great understudy for Danny Rose based on his display against Tottenham, and suggested loaning him back to Fulham to give him first-team football.
