According to Sky Sports (17:58), Tottenham Hotspur are close to signing Swansea City defender Joe Rodon in an £18million deal.
It’s claimed that Spurs are in talks with the Championship side over a deal – and an agreement is now close.
Spurs would be paying £18million for Rodon, finally bringing in the centre back that Jose Mourinho has been desperate to sign.
A move for Milan Skriniar hasn’t materialised, nor has a bid for Antonio Rudiger, so Spurs have now dipped into the Championship for a future star.
Rodon is only 22, and he has the size that Mourinho will like at 6ft 4in tall, whilst he has also played out from the back under Steve Cooper at Swansea.
The beauty of this deal is that Spurs don’t actually have to sign Rodon tonight; the extended deadline for Premier League and EFL clubs means that there isn’t necessarily a rush – but if Spurs want him in their Europa League squad, then it does need to be done today.

Still, Spurs have initiated talks and now look close to a deal, which will see Rodon become Tottenham’s seventh first-team summer signing alongside Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius.
Spurs went into the day being just a centre back away from an almost perfect window, and whilst Rodon isn’t the finished product, he is a real talent for Mourinho to nurture at Tottenham.
