This Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Tottenham Hotspur thing is swiftly turning into a saga.
It isn’t quite as riveting as the Paulo Dybala debacle of last year, in which Spurs somehow failed to sign the Juventus hitman, but this Hojbjerg thing is still going on a while.
The Daily Mail have reported that Tottenham are leading Everton in the race to sign the Denmark international.
But that’s been the case for a while, Hojbjerg wanting to play under Jose Mourinho, and they don’t appear to be much closer to signing him.
And ESPN have reported today that the Lilywhites have identified Lille powerhouse Boubakary Soumare as a plan-b option if they can’t get the Southampton star.
Soumare has been on Tottenham’s radar before, most recently in January, but the report adds that he’d cost £50 million and could be too expensive for chairman Daniel Levy.
If we’re honest, this makes little sense.
With a £50 million price-tag, Soumare, who has also been linked to Liverpool, is probably a better player than Hojbjerg and therefore it’s unlikely that he’s the fall-back option.
It’s the Frenchman who should be the priority if he’s on Mourinho’s shopping list, so perhaps Hojbjerg is the plan-b signing…..if it ever happens.
