90Min claim Tottenham have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona ace Sergino Dest – but face competition from Manchester United and Chelsea. The United States international is not a part of Xavi’s long-term plans.
Dest, 21, has only started 17 of Barcelona’s 37 La Liga matches this season. The return of Dani Alves has reduced the American’s game time and now, he could be sold to generate some cash at the Nou Camp this summer.
He only joined Barcelona in the summer of 2020 from Ajax, for a fee of £25million (Forbes) having worked under new Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag. United could be after a right-back, while Spurs are also looking.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diego Dalot have been poor of late. Emerson Royal is a player that has not convinced Antonio Conte. Chelsea will wave goodbye to Cesar Azpilicueta – and all three are looking at Dest.
Tottenham offered Barcelona ace Dest – Spurs the right move?
A move to Tottenham would certainly see Dest get game time. Given his age and quality, he fits the bill in terms of the type of player Fabio Paratici wants to bring in. But is it his best move? Probably not.
Indeed, a move to Chelsea would see him play understudy to Reece James and that will not suit either party. But with United doubtful over their current options, and a reunion with Ten Hag, Old Trafford is his best bet.
Tottenham would be a solid move for Dest and the 3-4-3 system would suit him. But reuniting with Ten Hag, the man who started Dest’s career at Ajax, would certainly see him return to his best form.
