Tottenham Hotspur have made the first move for the teenage striker.

According to a report from Spanish newspaper Don Balon, Tottenham Hotspur have made an offer for Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Barco.

The player is currently on the books at Independiente and has a contract until the summer of 2019, but he is said to be delaying a response to Spurs, with his agent allegedly sounding out Barcelona and Real Madrid for potential interest in his client.

It is no surprise that neither of the La Liga giants are planning a move for the 18-year-old any time soon, but it remains to be seen if Tottenham will get their man.

Mauricio Pochettino will be keen to bring more attacking options to the club, with an over reliance on Harry Kane in recent seasons and a lack of effective options out wide.

Barco can play as an attacking midfielder or a left winger and it is in the latter position where he could be most useful for Tottenham.

If Spurs do ultimately secure his signature it would seemingly be one for the future, given his inexperience to date.

Barco has only featured 28 times for Independiente thus far, scoring three goals in the process, but his performances have started to get the attention of clubs across Europe and it seems Tottenham are keen to get a deal over the line before someone else does.

The fact that the player’s agent reportedly sounded out two of the world’s biggest clubs may suggest he is sitting on a gem, or simply that they are seeking the best possible deal even at this early stage of the player’s career.

Tottenham will not want to be held to ransom, because if the player does not realise how well he would be served developing in North London, perhaps Pochettino should look elsewhere.
