Tottenham Hotspur are pushing to sign Pedro Goncalves and are desperate to beat Aston Villa to the Sporting star’s signature.
That is according to a new report from Portuguese newspaper Record, who claim that Tottenham are tightening their grip on Goncalves.
It’s stated that Tottenham scouted Goncalves in action for Sporting in their Europa League clash with Juventus on Thursday.
The report claims that Tottenham caught wind of Aston Villa making Goncalves a key target for the summer window.
Desperate not to miss out, Tottenham have allegedly opened talks to try and win the race for Goncalves this summer.
The former Wolves talent has really excelled with Sporting, racking up 57 goals and 31 assists in 123 appearances.
An attacking midfielder who can also play on either flank, Goncalves is an incredibly versatile performer and could fill a number of roles for Spurs.
The problem here is that Sporting are demanding the full €80million (£71million) release clause in Goncalves’ contract.
Reuniting with Pedro Porro may well appeal to Goncalves and Spurs appear to be keen on pairing them up again.

It’s hard to see Tottenham going for Pedro Goncalves right now
Goncalves is a great talent; he showed that with a stunning goal from the halfway line against Arsenal in the Europa League last month.
The 24-year-old still has bags of potential and could become a Premier League star after previously failing to break through at Wolves.
Yet it’s hard to imagine that Tottenham are pushing for this deal right now.
Spurs don’t have a director of football right now with Fabio Paratici leaving the club just a few days ago.
Tottenham don’t have a manager either, so who exactly would be making the decision to splash a huge fee on Goncalves?
This just isn’t a decision Tottenham should be taking before figuring out a new manager and a Paratici replacement.
Spurs tracking Goncalves makes sense but we doubt Tottenham are going so hard for his signature right now given their current situation.
