According to Calciomercato, Tottenham and West Ham are still monitoring Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, following summer interest.
What’s the story?
Well, Calciomercato believe the 24-year-old remains ‘in the notebook’ of Tottenham and West Ham, with both ready to pounce on an opportunity.
It comes after The Times revealed that Milenkovic was a priority for Fabio Paratici in the summer window, although a move never materialised.
Elsewhere, it was Tutto Mercato Web who wrote that West Ham were close to agreeing a fee for the 31-cap Serbia international.
Eventually, Milenkovic signed a one-year contract extension, although that clearly hasn’t put Spurs or the Hammers off.
The towering centre-back has played nearly every minute in Serie A this season, racking up 900 minutes across ten outings in Italy’s top-flight.
Calciomercato add that Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen.
Tottenham need Nikola Milenkovic more than West Ham
In West Ham’s case, David Moyes has some decent options at his disposal following the arrival of Kurt Zouma.
The Irons can call upon Zouma, Angelo Ogbonna, Issa Diop and Craig Dawson, so another centre-back would be unnecessary.
However, Tottenham are in need of a quality partner for Cristian Romero.
In fact, it should be Antonio Conte’s first priority.
Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez and Joe Rodon haven’t really been too impressive this season, and a fresh face is required.
In fairness, Rodon hasn’t been given many chances since his move from Swansea, but Dier and Sanchez have had more than enough opportunities to impress.
If not Milenkovic, Conte must sign a new centre-back.
