Burnley are determined to keep hold of Nick Pope and won’t sell the Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United goalkeeper for a penny less than £50 million, as reported by LancsLive.

Burnley have said they won’t be railroaded into selling any of their star players.

West Ham found that out the hard way when they tried to lure James Tarkowski from Turf Moor last summer.

And, with the Hammers now setting their sights on another Burnley favourite, Davids Gold, Sullivan and Moyes will know they face a challenge akin to climbing the north face of the Eiger in silk slippers.

The Daily Mail reports Pope is also a target for West Ham’s London neighbours, with Spurs making the England international their first-choice replacement for the declining Hugo Lloris.

But, with Dyche insisting Burnley are under no pressure to sell following much-needed investment from new American owners, LancsLive claims the bidding for Pope will start at £50 million.

So this feels like a bit of a non-starter already.

If West Ham were unwilling to pay the fee Burnley wanted for Tarkowski, what are the chances of Pope swapping one claret-and-blue club for another when the summer window opens?

Tottenham, meanwhile, have only paid more than £50 million once, when signing Tanguy Ndombele from Lyon in 2019.
