Tottenham Hotspur and Southampton have become the latest teams to eye up a move for Celtic star Kristoffer Ajer.

According to a report from TEAMtalk, both Tottenham and Southampton have joined Borussia Dortmund in the race to sign Kristoffer Ajer from Celtic as the defender continues to impress for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Having signed during Ronny Deila’s tenure at Parkhead and then made only one appearance for the Hoops during Rodgers’ first season with the club, the Norwegian appeared destined to be a youngster who could not quite make the grade with the Bhoys.

However, this season has been an entirely different story. The 19-year-old has been one of Celtic’s most impressive players this term and has arguably established himself as the best centre-back that Rodgers can call upon right now.

It looks as though however, that Celtic may now face a battle to keep hold of him, with TEAMtalk reporting that Southampton and Tottenham are both considering targeting the teenager.

TEAMtalk adds that Dortmund have the advantage in the race having already made contact, but Spurs and the Saints are not ready to be written off just yet.

What is the best decision for Ajer?

Unfortunately for Celtic, the three clubs that are currently chasing Ajer are all sides that have a fantastic record of giving young players a chance in the first-team, so he would be forgiven for finding any of those options tempting.

Staying with the Bhoys should also be an option that the defender seriously considers as he has improved dramatically over the last few months, so continuing to work under Rodgers may not be a bad idea at all.

What should certainly hand the likes of Tottenham and Dortmund an advantage over Southampton is the fact that the Saints currently find themselves in serious danger of falling into the Championship. And while second tier football would inevitably boost his chances of playing regularly, you would imagine that Spurs or the Bundesliga giants could easily blow Mark Hughes’ men out the water financially.
