The Daily Star report that Manchester United have placed a £40million price tag on the head of Dean Henderson – with Newcastle and Tottenham still said to be interested. A summer exit is expected for Henderson.
The 25-year-old remains back-up to David De Gea and has managed just three senior appearances this season – even being forced to get some minutes in the Under-23 side on two occasions. He needs to leave.
But Manchester United have him contracted at the club until the summer of 2025. He will not be leaving on the cheap and The Star report that United will not sell unless they receive offers of £40million for the England man.
90Min state that Newcastle are leading the race to sign Henderson, who is on £100,000 a week at Old Trafford (Star). The Mirror have recently reported that Spurs remain interested, with Pierluigi Gollini set to go.
Henderson for £40m: Good value? Tottenham or Newcastle?
This one seems pretty obvious. £40million is seriously expensive for Henderson, given his lack of game time this season, and clubs will look for United to compromise, somewhere between £25million and £30million.
That seems fairer for a player with huge potential, but now at 25, is yet to show it week in, week out. He needs a club where is first choice. At Spurs, he would be behind Hugo Lloris, though Lloris is now 35 years of age.
If he joined Spurs, he may have to wait a year or two before replacing Lloris – who signed a new deal until 2024. But at Newcastle, he would be first choice immediately in an upward looking side with plenty of ambition.
