CalcioMercato report that Tottenham have joined Liverpool in the race for Porto sensation Luis Diaz – but that he will cost as much as £50million. The Colombian superstar has been in supreme form, over in Portugal.
The 24-year-old left-winger has clocked up 15 goals in his 25 league and cup appearances for Porto this season – as well as laying on six assists. It comes after scoring four goals in five games at Copa America for Colombia.
Liverpool have been strongly linked with Diaz over the last few months, as they look to bring in cover for the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane. But CM report that Tottenham have thrown their hat into the ring, for Diaz.
The new report claims that both clubs are looking to sign Diaz and while a move in January is unlikely – Porto have quoted both sides a fee of £50million. Porto currently sit in first place, and remain unbeaten.
£50m for Diaz: A good deal for Tottenham or Liverpool?
If Tottenham and Liverpool have any qualms about spending that much on a player currently playing in Portugal, they need to look at recent history. Ruben Dias, Bruno Fernandez and plenty more have starred in England.
Diaz is showing the kind of form that attracted clubs to the presence of Manchester United ace Fernandes. At £50million, while it is expensive, it is not the end of the world and both clubs can easily afford that figure.
He would hand Liverpool a long-term replacement for Mane and Salah, but he would give Tottenham the third part of a brilliant front three. Perhaps, if Tottenham get into the top four – he might prefer to start in North London.
