Report: Tottenham and Brighton told to pay £16.8m for Thomas Delaney

Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton and Hove Albion are reportedly interested in signing the Werder Bremen ace.

According to German media outlet Mein Werder, Brighton and Tottenham will have to pay €19 million (£16.8 million) in order to sign Werder Bremen midfielder Thomas Delaney this summer.

German publication Bild reported last month that the two Premier League clubs are interested in signing the 26-year-old, who has really impressed in the Bundesliga this season.

The Denmark international has chalked up three goals and six assists in 35 appearances in all competitions for Bremen this season, but his overall influence on his team is what is most impressive about his game.

Mein Werder claim that he is available this summer for just £16.8 million – an absolute steal in today’s ludicrously inflated market.

Better suited to Brighton or Spurs?

The Werder Bremen ace is a cultured central midfielder, and possesses the kind of physical attributes that would see him surely succeed in England.

He might just be better off choosing a switch to the Seagulls over Tottenham, however, due to the immense competition for places in the central midfield department currently at Spurs.

Delaney would be a useful addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad, but whether he would be happy with a bit-part role in north London is highly questionable.

The Denmark international could thrive at Brighton under Chris Hughton, and for just £16.8 million, he could turn out to be one of the signigns of the season, if he does in fact move to the Premier League.
