Italian outlet CalcioMercato claim that Tottenham and Arsenal remain interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie – but amid summer reports of a £34m price tag, CM say he could go for a fee between £21.5m and £26m.
Still only 20, Hincapie has starred for Leverkusen. A centre-back with 34 Ecuador caps to his name already, Hincapie has played 51 times at senior level for Leverkusen since joining the club in the summer of 2021. He has caught the eye.
Not least, because Hincapie also impressed during Ecuador’s three group games at the World Cup. German magazine Kicker said Tottenham were willing to pay a fee of £34m to sign Hincapie, back in the summer. That has reduced.
Indeed, Hincapie is still a target for Spurs and Arsenal. CM say as much, also saying that Napoli, Roma, Inter and Milan are also keen. The report claims that Hincapie is available to be bought for a smaller fee between £21.5m and £26m.

If it is true that Leverkusen would be willing to do business for Hincapie and a fee of little over £20million, then there will be more than just the six clubs mentioned as interested. He is a superb talent, and widely experienced at just 20.
To have clocked up 34 caps for his country at this stage is remarkable. A comparison – Bukayo Saka is considered one of England’s best players. But he is four months older than Hincapie, but he only has 22 caps for The Three Lions.
So, Hincapie’s international record is sublime. He is first choice at such a young age, for a club like Leverkusen. To get him for a fee in the region of £25million would be absolutely stunning business – for most clubs in European football.
