Report: Tottenham and Arsenal leading chase for £50m summer deal for Wilfried Zaha

Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal look set to battle it out over Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha at the end of the season.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 21st January 2018; page 64), Tottenham and Arsenal are leading the race to sign Wilfried Zaha in the summer, but they could have to pay £50 million to land the Crystal Palace star.

The Sun on Sunday reports that Zaha signed a new five-year deal with the Eagles last summer and is set to remain at Selhurst Park during the January transfer window. However, it appears that his desire to stay may just be delaying an inevitable race for his signature.

The Sun on Sunday (print edition; 21st January 2018; page 64) suggests that Spurs and the Gunners are both set to reignite their interest at the end of the season, but his value is set to be closer to the £50 million mark.

Zaha has been exceptional for Palace for much of the campaign this term, and his return to fitness has arguably been a key reason why Roy Hodgson’s men are in nothing like the danger they found themselves in when the Englishman took over from Frank De Boer.

The former Manchester United winger regularly looks like Palace’s most dangerous player and has scored four times in the Premier League this season.

And while Hodgson will be hoping that Zaha maintains his current form until the end of the season to ensure that Palace stay up, he will know that that may leave the Eagles having to respond to plenty of interest in the summer, and perhaps it would tempt Tottenham and Arsenal to consider meeting Palace’s demands for the winger.
