The talented youngster is one of football’s most promising prospects.
Youri Tielemans
Tottenham are among several European clubs interested in signing Belgian starlet Youri Tielemans, according to Nieuwsblad.
The report claims Spurs, Roma, Atletico Madrid and Milan are all fans of the 19-year old but suggests that Roma currently lead the queue and are willing to offer 18 million euros to secure the deal.
Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen in action with Anderlecht’s Yoeri Tielemans
The Anderlecht midfielder made headlines in 2013 when he became the youngest Belgian player to feature in the Champions League, starting against Olympiacos aged just 16 years and 148 days.
He is a highly technical midfielder with a great engine, a fantastic range of passing and an eye for goal and has made over 100 appearances for his club despite still being a teenager.
Anderlecht primarily deploy him in a deep central midfield role but versatility is another one of his strengths and he is equally adept at playing behind the strikers and even in wide positions.
Tottenham’s Mousa Dembele in action with West Brom’s Craig Gardner
Spurs have added Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama to their ranks so far this summer and Mauricio Pochettino spoke recently about his desire to add more.
Wanyama’s arrival has provided a quality alternative to Eric Dier but the question of who covers when Mousa Dembele is absent is up in the air.
Nabil Bentaleb has been told to find a new club, while Ryan Mason and Tom Carroll no longer look up to the required standard.
Youri Tielemans
Harry Winks has impressed in recent outings but Tielemans is a level above and would be the perfect cover for his fellow Belgian.
If the reported price of 18 million euros (£15.2 million) is accurate then that represents fantastic value in the current market and Spurs should make sure they are in the well in the mix for his services.
