Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly failed with a bid for Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic.
According to Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List, Tottenham Hotspur have failed with a €40million (£36million) move for Inter Milan midfielder Marcelo Brozovic – and are just £9million away from activating his release clause.
Spurs are the only Premier League club yet to make a new signing this summer, and they now head into the final 24 hours of the transfer window desperately attempting to bring in a new face.
A new midfielder has been a top priority for Spurs throughout the summer, and a host of names have been linked with the club, with concerns over Mousa Dembele’s future in North London.
Now, Croatian newspaper Jutarnji List report that Tottenham want to sign Inter Milan star Marcelo Brozovic, but have actually failed with an offer of around €40million (£36million).
It’s claimed that Brozovic’s release clause is set at €50million (£45million), leaving Spurs just £9million away from a deal – and it’s added that Tottenham could double Brozovic’s wages, from around £50,000-a-week to up to £100,000-a-week.
Whether Spurs can come up with a deal to sign the Croatian in the next 24 hours remains to be seen, as they are fast running out of time, but the release clause means that a deal is there for Spurs if they really want to make their move.
Brozovic, 25, hit four goals and nine assists in 31 Serie A games last season, as the former Dinamo Zagreb talent impressed under Luciano Spalletti whilst helping Inter return to the Champions League.
The midfielder enjoyed an outstanding summer too, as he played a starring role in Croatia’s run to the World Cup final, and his performances in Russia may have tempted Spurs into a bid – but if they want Brozovic, Spurs will have to move quickly and come up with a bigger and better offer.
