Arsenal, Barcelona and Manchester United have been linked with a move for Matteo Darmian.
According to the latest reports by Italian transfer expert Gianluca di Marzio, Torino are unwilling to budge on their €20 million [£14.3 million] asking price for Matteo Darmian amid Premier League interest.
The 25-year-old versatile defender was one of the standout players in Serie A last season, starting 28 league matches and adding a further 10 appearances in the Europa League.
As per a report in the Express last month, Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona are leading the race for his signature, while new reports say that offers from the Premier League are incoming.
The Gunners could see the Italy international as an ideal addition given his versatility along the backline, but signing him ultimately could take up a rather unexpected chunk of their summer transfer kitty.
“New offers are coming in for the wing-back, primarily from the Premier League. Meanwhile Torino won’t lower their asking price as they hope any future suitors will not meet their demands which could ultimately lead to Darmian continuing to play for the Granata,” the report states.
Should Arsenal continue their pursuit of Matteo Darmian?
Predominantly a wing-back, Damian can also play anywhere across a back four and as an out-and-out winger, owing to his ability to get up and down the flank and become an attacking outlet.
However, there are arguably better players on the market more suited to the Gunners needs, such as Augsburg’s Baba Rahman who is listed by Bild as another full-back interesting the North Londoners.
£14.3 million is a lot of money for a player who may not be a first-team regular, though with Nacho Monreal and Per Mertesacker aging, Arsene Wenger will need to make another defensive addition soon.
