Aston Villa look set to keep defender Tommy Elphick this month.
Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick in action
According to The Telegraph, Millwall are interested in signing Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick on loan – but Villa may now keep him after his recent displays.
Villa and then-boss Roberto Di Matteo swooped to sign Elphick in the summer of 2016 following their relegation from the Premier League, and he was seen as a sensible addition having emerged as a superb leader for Bournemouth during their rise to the top flight.
Elphick, 30, was supposed to solidify the Villa defence but endured a miserable first season at Villa Park, producing disappointing performances and eventually slipping down the pecking order under Steve Bruce.

After a summer exit fell through, Elphick remained at Villa Park, and was a bit-part player once again before coming into the side over the last month due to John Terry’s absence.
Elphick’s displays may just have saved his Villa career, as The Telegraph report that Villa may now keep Elphick this month despite interest from Championship rivals Millwall.
The Lions are understood to be interested in taking Elphick on loan until the end of the season, as manager Neil Harris looks to boost his squad to ensure his side don’t get dragged towards the bottom three.

However, after impressing with his recent displays, Elphick now looks set to be given a chance to salvage his Villa career in the second half of the campaign.
Bruce already has James Chester, John Terry and Christopher Samba at his disposal, but Elphick has now put himself in contention for first-team football and a stay of execution at Villa Park.
