Aston Villa appear to be closing in on goalkeeper Tom Heaton.

According to the Daily Mail, Aston Villa are set to sign Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton in an £8million move – and he’ll undergo a medical within the next 48 hours.

Villa have been the busiest Premier League team in the transfer market this season, bringing in a raft of signings to bolster Dean Smith’s squad.

A new goalkeeper has yet to arrive though, and that has been a priority given that Jed Steer has no Premier League experience and Lovre Kalinic has struggled since arriving in January.

Now, it’s claimed that Villa have agreed a deal of around £8million with Burnley for Heaton, and he’ll undergo a medical within 48 hours as he heads down to Birmingham.

Having failed with a £4million bid, Villa finally appear to have landed their man, and having made it second time lucky, Smith will have a new goalkeeper in place for the first game of the season.

Heaton, 33, brings bags of Premier League experience to Villa Park, having racked up almost 100 top flight appearances for the Clarets.

An England international with three caps to his name, Heaton ticks many boxes for Villa, and they’ve been able to land him inside the final year of his contract.

Some may worry about paying close to £10million for a 33-year-old, but Heaton is a safe pair of hands between the sticks, and should finally solve Villa’s long-standing goalkeeping problems.
