Everton are close to agreeing a new contract with their exciting young midfielder, Tom Davies, according to reports from The Times.

The 18-year-old has made some eye-catching displays already and will make his Merseyside derby debut against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

The report suggests that the negotiation over a new deal are at an advanced stage. The midfielder signed a five-year contract back in August, but the club want to reward him with yet another lucrative deal that will run till 2022.

Davies made his debut last season and has become a regular starter under Ronald Koeman in recent months. The Telegraph reports that he is expected to pen the new deal shortly after Saturday’s Merseyside derby.

The youngster is a product of Everton’s youth system and is highly thought of by the FA. He is the captain of the England Under-19 set up, and will lead the country in the European Championship finals in Georgia in July.

Everton fans will be happy to see a young player committing his long-term future to the club at a time when senior players like Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley are refusing to do so.
