According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is prepared to force through a move to Manchester United – even if it means waiting until next summer to do it.

Alderweireld has been a key player for Spurs since his 2015 move from Atletico Madrid, forming a strong partnership with his former Ajax and current international teammate Jan Vertonghen.

The Belgian has become one of the top centre backs in the Premier League, but his Spurs future has been shrouded in doubt ever since suffering an injury in November, as he struggled to win his place back in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Alderweireld, 29, has been expected to move on this summer after three years in North London, and Sky Sports even claim that he is available for transfer, and Spurs will listen to all bids for him before next week’s transfer deadline.

Now, The Mirror claim that Alderweireld is so desperate to join Manchester United that he is willing to go to great lengths in order to finalise a move to Old Trafford.

Tottenham’s £75million asking price is seemingly putting United off making a move now, but Alderweireld is seemingly set on making the move next summer – whether it’s for free or for a bargain price.

Alderweireld’s contract expires in 2019, but if Spurs activate their one-year option on his deal, then a £25million release clause will become an option for United, with Spurs set to miss out on big money either way.

That leaves Tottenham in a quandary; Alderweireld is seemingly unwilling to sign a new deal, and that may force Spurs to reduce their asking price now in order to avoid a major loss.
