Toby Alderweireld was left out of the Tottenham Hotspur squad that clinched a fantastic Premier League victory at the weekend.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Toby Alderweireld is yet to receive an explanation as to why he was left out of the Tottenham side that managed to pick up a fantastic win over Chelsea at the weekend.

Alderweireld’s future with Spurs appears to be up in the air with the two sides struggling to agree terms over a new contract. The Mirror reports that Mauricio Pochettino’s side are currently refusing to meet the Belgian’s demands, and a summer exit is looking set to be on the cards.

And it appears that the centre-back is starting to fear that the writing may be on the wall as the Mirror suggests that he feels that he may be being frozen out as he did not receive an explanation regarding why he was left out of the team that faced Chelsea and won at Stamford Bridge for the first time for 28 years at the weekend.

Somewhat unfortunately for Alderweireld, his absence was not really noticed as Spurs claimed a hugely impressive win over the Blues with Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez managing to keep the home side’s attack fairly quiet.

It has been more than a month since the former Southampton loanee actually played for Tottenham in any competition, and he must now worry whether it is going to be a hugely frustrating end to the campaign, especially with the World Cup in Russia just around the corner.

For Tottenham, it is arguably a very good statement for them to – perhaps unintentionally – keep picking up positive results without needing to put the 29-year-old in their squad.
