According to the London Evening Standard, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld has been made aware that he can earn considerably more money if he leaves the club.
Alderwiereld, 28, made his name with Ajax before heading to Atletico Madrid in 2014, but a frustrating year in Spain led to him joining Southampton on a season-long loan deal – and that move changed his career.
The Belgian international impressed so much for the Saints that Tottenham snapped him up in the summer of 2015, and he has established himself as one of the Premier League’s top defenders since joining Spurs.
Having formed a superb partnership with compatriot and ex-Ajax team-mate Jan Vertonghen, Alderweireld is a key player at White Hart Lane – but speculation surrounds his future.

The defender’s contract contains a £25million buyout clause which could become active for a short period of time in 2019 (The Mirror), with Spurs no doubt keen to extend the defender’s deal and overwrite that clause.
Now, the London Evening Standard report that Alderweireld has in fact been made aware of interest from other clubs, who would be willing to pay him considerably more than his current £50,000-a-week wages at White Hart Lane.

Last week, Sky Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Inter Milan are keen to land Alderweireld this summer, claiming that he has already told Spurs that he doesn’t intend to sign a new contract.
Spurs are unlikely to be pressured into selling their star defender this summer, but talk of earning more money elsewhere could concern Tottenham, putting famously frugal chairman Daniel Levy in a tricky situation.
