Inter Milan have reportedly earmarked Torino defender and Newcastle United target Gleison Bremer as a replacement for Stefan de Vrij.

According to CalcioMercato, the Dutch international is likely to move to the Premier League in the summer with the Serie A title-holders eager to cash in on De Vrij, with Inter lining up a move for Bremer to replace the 30-year-old.

Earning a reported £116,000-a-week, Inter are eager to replace De Vrij with a cheaper and younger defender, a profile Bremer fits, yet Newcastle are also interested in the Brazilian centre-back.

Corriere Granata report that Newcastle made a €30m (£25m) offer in January to sign the Torino star, who last week extended his contract with the Turin-based club.

Whilst Newcastle ended up signing a centre-back in January in Dan Burn, the Toon could still reignite their interest in Bremer in the summer, with Inter now in the race to sign the defender, who was labelled as ‘incredible’ by Fabrizio Romano.

Competition from Inter could be a problem for Newcastle, though, with Serie A players having a tendency to remain in Italy if a big club comes calling, which could see Bremer heading to Milan.

Bremer was seemingly a top target for Newcastle in January, however, with Inter now in the case for the Serie A defender, the Toon could find it difficult to sign the Brazilian with a club as big as the Nerazzurri now in the competition.

Indeed, Bremer could be a solid replacement for De Vrij for Inter, and for Newcastle, the appeal of the Milan-based club could be simply too great for the Torino defender ahead of the Magpies.
