Newcastle United are set to miss out on LOSC Lille playmaker Yusuf Yazici, with the Turkish international in talks to join CSKA Moscow on loan.

According to L’Equipe, the Russian giants are eager to sign the 24-year-old this window after missing out on Michael Cuisance and Angelo Fulgini, with CSKA confident of signing Yazici on loan with an option to buy.

It was only last week where Newcastle were strongly linked with a move for Yazici by reports in Turkey. Publication Sabah claimed that the Toon were showing a strong interest in the attacking midfielder.

Indeed, as per the report, Newcastle approached Yazici. However, it appears that the Lille star, who was key to the club’s Ligue 1 title win last season, will move east to the Russian capital.

A confident player who has been compared to Mesut Ozil by the man himself as per Hurriyet, Yazici could have been a solid addition to Eddie Howe’s side given his both creative and attacking qualities.

The former Trabzonspor star bagged 14 goals and six assists in all competitions last season. However, a change in manager and system has seen Yazici drop out of the Lille XI, with a move to CSKA now looming.

Yazici was one of the breakout names for Lille last season. However, regular minutes have not been there for the Turk this campaign, and Newcastle have seemingly missed a trick not pushing hard enough for the 24-year-old.

Indeed, Yazici will likely flourish in Russia with CSKA given the quality of the league. And for Newcastle, the versatile playmaker could have been ideal as an option in both the frontline or in central midfield.
