Report: Title-winners moving to sign £101k-a-week dynamo offered to Tottenham, amid reports

Atletico Madrid are now exploring a deal to sign Goncalo Guedes, per TuttoMercatoWEB, despite Jorge Mendes recently offering the Valencia winger to Tottenham Hotspur.

Diego Simeone is keen for the Wanda Metropolitano natives to strengthen his La Liga winning side this summer. The Argentine particularly wants to see a new striker brought to the Spanish capital, with eyes on Wolfsburg star Josip Brekalo.

But Atletico also admire Guedes, and are keeping close tabs on his situation as they ramp up their recruitment drive. Simeone’s side have already secured the services of Copa America champion Rodrigo de Paul, after paying Udinese £30m.

Atletico Madrid may now stop Guedes from joining Tottenham from Valencia this summer. Deporte Valenciano claimed last week that his agent, Mendes, is desperately trying to land a move to north London for the Mexican.

Valencia urgently need Guedes off their books to overcome their serious financial troubles. And saw Wolverhampton Wanderers close off a route to Molineux, per El Desmarque, after signing Francisco Trincao.

But Nuno Espirito Santo’s arrival in north London has seen Tottenham become an option for Guedes, should they beat Atletico. A side who can offer the £101,000-per-week dynamo Champions League football and the chance to stay in Spain.

Mendes also has a strong relationship with Tottenham’s Managing Director Fabio Paratici, per football.london. The super-agent also represents Nuno, and has a closer bond with the Portuguese tactician than most.

So, if Nuno and Paratici agree that Tottenham should sign Guedes, the only hurdle should be the player’s will, and not the interest surfacing from Atletico Madrid.
