It just wouldn’t be a summer transfer window unless Tottenham Hotspur were linked with a move for Gareth Bale.
The Real Madrid attacker left Spurs to join the Spanish giants in a world-record transfer seven years ago.
And when things aren’t going well for Bale at the Bernabeu, which seems to be all the time, speculation about a return to Tottenham crops up.
It’s a case of here we go again, as Quatro in Spain report that the North Londoners are keen to bring him back after falling out of favour completely under Zinedine Zidane.
Zidane’s side were crowned Liga champions last month for the first time in three years and although Bale was spotted during the celebrations, he looked a subdued figure.
Quatro add that the 31-year-old – who has 83 caps for Wales – would be interested in a return to the Lilywhites, but will it happen? In a word, no.
As much as Tottenham would love it to happen, the reality is that chairman Daniel Levy took out a £200 million loan earlier in the summer to protect the club against financial losses incurred due to the global health crisis.
The bottom line is that Spurs – who have just signed Joe Hart on a Bosman – won’t be committing to any huge-money deals this summer, and although Bale wouldn’t cost a bomb in terms of transfer fee, his £600,000-a-week salary is another matter altogether.
