According to Sport/Voetbalmagazine in Belgium, Timothy Castagne did hold talks with Tottenham Hotspur – but they just couldn’t afford him.

It’s claimed that Castagne spoke directly with Jose Mourinho, with a move to Tottenham being offered to the Belgian ace.

Spurs allegedly couldn’t or wouldn’t fund a move for Castagne in the end, and he will now join Premier League rivals Leicester City instead.

Spurs ultimately felt that Matt Doherty was better value, landing him from Wolverhampton Wanderers in a deal worth just £13.4million according to Football.London.

Castagne’s move to Leicester will cost €24million (£21.5million), a price that Tottenham seemingly couldn’t pay this summer.

The Atalanta man has age on his side compared to Doherty, with the four-year gap the likely reason for such a big difference in the fees.

Doherty is Premier League ready, big, physical and dangerous going forward, so Spurs will currently feel that they have made the right decision.

Castagne may end up playing at left back to replace Ben Chilwell at Leicester whilst Spurs saw him as a right back – and we’ll now see whether the Belgian can thrive in the Premier League.
