Koln’s Anthony Modeste, Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez and Watford’s Troy Deeney are reportedly wanted by West Brom.
Burnley’s Andre Gray celebrates scoring
According to the Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion are not pursuing Burnley striker Andre Gray – but three attackers are on their wish list ahead of the summer transfer window.
Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Leicester City means that it’s now just one point in the last five games for the Baggies, with no goals scored in that run of fixtures.
That lack of goals means that West Brom must head into the transfer market this summer in order to boost their attacking options, given that striker Salomon Rondon has gone nearly five months without a goal.
Now, the Birmingham Mail report that three strikers are on Tony Pulis’ wish list; Koln star Anthony Modeste, Southampton misfit Jay Rodriguez and Watford captain Troy Deeney.
Watford’s Troy Deeney
Modeste, formerly of Blackburn Rovers, has hit a stunning 23 goals in 31 Bundesliga games for Koln this season, and the 29-year-old’s goal return in Germany means that West Brom are allegedly keen to sign him this summer.
Deeney fits a similar mould as a centre forward with strength and hold-up ability, and his fractious relationship with Watford manager Walter Mazzarri means that he could leave the club. Deeney, 28, has scored ten league goals in 33 games this season, and the Birmingham-born attacker could fancy a move back to the Midlands.
Anthony Modeste
Southampton’s Rodriguez has seen his career stagnate over the last three years having dealt with a major knee injury, but with four goals in 21 appearances this term, he has flashed some ability again – and West Brom may want to be the team to resurrect his career.
However, it’s added that West Brom don’t actually hold an interest in Burnley striker Andre Gray. The Wolverhampton-born attacker, who started his career in the Wolves youth team, has scored nine Premier League goals this season, and is expected to leave Burnley given that his contract expires in just over a year – but West Brom reportedly aren’t pursuing his signature this summer.
