According to Ghana Soccernet, Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey is set to snub Arsenal and sign a new deal with the La Liga side.

It’s claimed that Atletico have offered Partey a new deal worth £130,000-a-week – double his money – as well as raising his release clause from £43million to £87.2million.

The midfielder is now ready to accept those terms and stay put at the Wanda Metropolitano, in a decision that will leave Mikel Arteta absolutely gutted.

The Daily Mail recently reported that Arteta and technical director Edu had approved a move for Partey, which the Gunners were desperately trying to raise funds to pull off.

That hasn’t materialised, and Atletico have seemingly managed to convince Partey to stay in the Spanish capital and snub Arsenal.

The 27-year-old has been on the Atletico books since 2012, and now looks set to extend his stay for even longer if these reports are to be believed.

It was always going to be difficult for Arsenal to pull off a deal for Partey, as their budget has been hit massively by the global pandemic.

Partey may well have used Arsenal’s interest to leverage Atletico into a new deal, but the Gunners will now seemingly have to look elsewhere for a new midfield enforcer.
