According to RMC Sport, Paris Saint-Germain defender Thomas Meunier has turned down a short-term extension – and it’s all so he can get to Borussia Dortmund quickly.

It’s stated that PSG had offered him a short-term deal to stay for the rest of the Champions League campaign, despite not actually wanting him to stay any longer.

Meunier has seemingly chosen to sign for Borussia Dortmund, and because the Bundesliga season starts on August 21st – just before the final of the Champions League.

Meunier has allegedly decided that he would rather be with his new teammates at Dortmund than sticking it out with PSG, so has turned down their short-term offer.

The Belgian’s move to Signal Iduna Park appears to be very close, which means that Tottenham’s hopes are effectively fading away despite his exit being imminent.

The Times reported just days ago that Tottenham were pressing to sign Meunier. He had allegedly held talks with Jose Mourinho about joining the club, with the Spurs boss keen to add a right back.

Meunier could have joined Toby Alderweireld at Spurs, whilst his agent Pini Zahavi played a key role in bringing Mourinho to Tottenham in the first place, sparking suggestions that Spurs had a real chance.

However, Dortmund look to have won the race, and Spurs will have to go back to the drawing board in search of another right back to target.
