Leeds United are concerned about an injury which Everton defender Matthew Pennington picked up on debut.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds United have a big concern over Matthew Pennington.
Everton loanee Pennington enjoyed a fine competitive debut for Leeds against Bolton Wanderers on Sunday.
However, the young centre-back damaged his ankle in the contest, and had to be substituted off.
Leeds were hopeful that Pennington could make a swift recovery, but there are now concerns that he could be set for a more lengthy absence.
Pennington will undergo scans later today to assess the extent of the injury, with Leeds hoping for good news.
If Pennington is out for a lengthy period, Leeds are said to be ready to step up their chase for a new centre-back.
Gaetano Berardi also had to be substituted off during Leeds’ match against Bolton, when he picked up a shoulder injury.
However, Leeds are optimistic that the Swiss defender should be back and available soon.
When Berardi does return he faces increased competition for a place in Thomas Christiansen’s side, following the arrival of Cameron Borthwick-Jackson on loan from Manchester United.
The Whites beat Bolton 3-2 at the Macron Stadium to get their Championship season off to a good start.
