Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez looks set to depart St. James’ Park at the end of the season.

Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez looks on during a pre-season friendly match between Hull City and Newcastle United at KCOM Stadium on July 24, 2018 in Hull, England.

According to the Daily Mirror, this season is likely to be Rafael Benitez’s last in charge at Newcastle United.

Newcastle have been attempting to get Benitez to commit his future all summer, but the Spaniard has refused to do so.

The Mirror claim that there is no chance that Benitez will put pen to paper, as things stand.

Benitez wants a bigger budget, but Mike Ashley will not commit to giving the Newcastle boss the funds he wants until his future is sorted.

Benitez reportedly cannot leave Newcastle right now, as he would have to pay £6 million to get out of his contract, but the report suggests that he is set to leave at the end of the season, when his current deal expires.

If Benitez does leave it will come as a bitter blow to Newcastle fans, who have been urging him to stay.

The Magpies boss has done a stunning job on Tyneside so far, and his departure would cause outrage at St. James’ Park, if it does go through.
