Report: There are fears Liverpool victory in their next match could have big consequences

Liverpool face Manchester United after the international break.

The Daily Mail report that Liverpool could prompt the sacking of Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the Anfield club’s next match, as the Norwegian faces increasing pressure in his post.

The paper say that despite public proclamations from Solskjaer about the upcoming match against Liverpool being the ‘perfect game’ for his side, he has private fears about the fixture.

The Red Devils are winless in their last five matches in all competitions.

Liverpool meanwhile are in rampant form, losing just a single game since the start of the season, winning all their Premier League matches in the process.

The Mail reckon that Solskjaer is concerned executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward will ‘come under huge pressure to sack him’ if Liverpool manage to continue that kind of form and win heavily at Old Trafford.

Perhaps notably, Jose Mourinho was dismissed in the wake of a 3-1 defeat to the Reds last season.

Liverpool must focus on their own goals

While the underlying narrative in the upcoming grudge match is obviously going to be focused around Solskjaer, Liverpool must block all of that out and focus on their own ambitions.

Jurgen Klopp must get the message through to his players that despite the likely media barrage in the build-up to the fixture, with full glare on United’s problems, that the Reds must get the job done and forget about any consequences.

Having forged an eight point lead at the top of the English Premier League table, it’d be easy to take their eyes off the prize for the showdown at Old Trafford, especially in the wake of an international break.

The Reds haven’t won at the venue since 2014 when Steven Gerrard netted two penalties.
