Italian outlet CMW claim Erik Ten Hag is considering a move to bring AC Milan midfielder and Arsenal target Ismael Bennacer to Manchester United in a swap deal involving Donny van de Beek this summer.

Bennacer, 24, has been excellent for Milan since joining the club in 2019. Last season, he was a crucial part in Milan’s Serie A title win, playing 40 times in all competitions. Arsenal are keen on signing the Algeria international.

Previous reports claim Arsenal have made a £34million bid to re-sign the midfielder – who left Arsenal in 2017. However, it appears Arsenal are not alone in their interest in Bennacer. Manchester United now want him.

The latest report says that Manchester United are now planning a move to sign Bennacer. Milan want £38million for him, and United are ready to include van de Beek in the deal to reduce the fee this summer.

Manchester United considering Arsenal target Bennacer in swap deal

United definitely need to improve their options in the middle of the park. Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard have all gone. But what United lack in the middle is a bit of tenacity, a defensive-minded player.

Bennacer is that. He is a little terrier. Even if United sign Frenkie de Jong, Bennacer should remain a target. The duo could be the ideal partnership – de Jong for his footballing ability and Bennacer for his work rate and determination.

If Milan want van de Beek, then including him in a deal makes sense. It would dramatically reduce Milan’s asking price – perhaps an offer of £10million plus de Jong would tempt Milan in the coming days and weeks.
