Milot Rashica’s £20.5 million move to Aston Villa is in danger due to the Werder Bremen winger’s desire for a £75,000-a-week contract at the Premier League outfit, as reported by the Birmingham Mail.

A transfer rumour that has been doing the rounds since January is suddenly very public news.

Last week, Werder Bremen’s sporting director Frank Baumann admitted that Villa had shown an interest in the Kosovo international, speaking to BuliNews.

But whether the speedy Rashica will end the window in claret and blue, forming a formidable front-three alongside Ollie Watkins and Bertrand Traore, remains to be seen.

After spending £45 million to raid Brentford and Lyon, the Mail reports that Villa have now triggered the £20.5 million release clause in Rashica’s contract.

This means Werder will be powerless to prevent the departure of their 11-goal talisman and top scorer, a man who saved the 2004 Bundesliga champions from relegation last term.

But it seems that player and club are still far apart in negotiations with those pesky personal terms proving to be a major stumbling block.

The report adds that Rashica wants to double his wages and earn £75,000-a-week in England.

But Villa are not exactly enamoured by the prospect of making a player completely unproven in the Premier League one of their highest earners.

As a result, talks are at a standstill right now and doubts are increasing about whether Villa will return to the table.

There are alternative options on the market too, with Villa also linked with Rhian Brewster, Florian Thauvin and Watford’s Ismaila Sarr.
