Leeds United are looking to bring in new faces to boost Marcelo Bielsa’s squad.
According to a report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, new Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa has strong links with Arsenal, which may just aid the club in the transfer market.
The Whites completed a blockbuster move to make Bielsa their new manager on Friday, with the Argentinian legend coming in as Paul Heckingbottom’s replacement in a stunning deal.
Bielsa, 62, has been one of the greatest tactical innovators over the last 20 years, and he certainly won’t have taken the Leeds job without being promised major backing to bring in new signings.
Now, the Yorkshire Evening Post report that not only does Bielsa have strong ties to Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur, but also Arsenal, if Leeds choose to pursue loan deals with the Premier League clubs.
Ties to City and Spurs aren’t a huge surprise given that managers Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino both namecheck Bielsa as inspirations on their managerial careers, but the Arsenal link is somewhat interesting.
New Gunners boss Unai Emery went up against Bielsa in Spain, and told L’Equipe in 2016 that the Argentinian was a major influence on him, which may just aid Leeds if they wanted an Arsenal player.
Bielsa could use his ties to bring in Arsenal youngsters, with defenders Rob Holding or Konstantinos Marvopanos needing first-team football – and either would fit in Bielsa’s traditional 3-3-1-3 system.
Chuba Akpom, Reiss Nelson or Eddie Nketiah could also boost the Leeds attack, and fans should keep an eye on those links with Arsenal, as Bielsa could take full advantage of his relationship with staff at the Emirates Stadium.
