Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Atletico Madrid’s Mario Suarez.
According to a report in Spanish paper Marca, Atletico Madrid could use Mario Suarez as a sweetener in their bid to sign Fiorentina defender Stefan Savic.
Suarez’s stay at the Vicente Calderon stadium appears to drawing to a close as his struggles to nail down a regular first-team spot has prompted plenty of interest across Europe.
A recent report by TMW claimed that the versatile star had already agreed on a move to Inter Milan, while Sky Sport Italia accredits Tottenham Hotspur with a strong interest also.
The Spanish ace would be ideal for Spurs, capable of playing in a wide range of positions and providing strength in depth across the board at White Hart Lane.
However, it seems Suarez is instead destined for a switch to Serie A, this time Fiorentina named as his likely destination as the Italian outfit and Atletico Madrid begin negotiations, as stated by Marca.
Should Spurs make a last-ditch attempt to sign Mario Suarez?
With an £8.5 million release clause in his contract, Suarez represents an astute opportunity for Spurs to bring him in as a Paulinho replacement, thus getting a better player and remaining in profit.
Boss Mauricio Pochettino needs to add further additions to his squad, especially in midfield where Ryan Mason and Nabil Bentaleb suffer from the lack of quality competition.
