Report: Swansea set to sign Nottingham Forest’s Barrie McKay

Nottingham Forest winger Barrie McKay is reportedly on his way out of the City Ground after just one season.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (29/07; page 63), Swansea are apparently all set to sign Nottingham Forest winger Barrie McKay in a bargain deal this summer.

McKay only joined Forest last summer – for £500,000, according to BBC Sport – arriving at the Championship club from Scottish Premiership side Rangers. And for a while it appeared that the 23-year-old was going to prove to be a stunning signing.

The wide-man finished 2017 with five goals and seven assists in the second tier. However, his form seemed to desert him around the turn of the year. His last goal came in December – his most recent assist came a month earlier – and he struggled for game-time following Aitor Karanka’s arrival.

Forest have done some superb business this summer, so it would probably surprise few of their fans that McKay is reportedly on the verge of leaving the City Ground.

The Sun on Sunday (29/07; page 63) reports that Swansea will sign the attacker in a bargain deal as Graham Potter gears up for his first campaign at the helm at the Liberty Stadium.

Heading into January, it would have seemed like a major surprise had Forest decided to sell McKay to a divisional rival in what is being described as a bargain deal.

However, McKay appears to be well out of favour under Karanka, and the business that the club have done so far this summer certainly suggests that it may not be too much of a gamble to sell him to a team that many will be expecting Forest to be jostling with in the promotion battle.
